Nurture Young Artists by Attending the 20th Annual Wunderkind High School Art Exhibit
The Manitou Art Center is proud to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of hosting the Wunderkind High School Art Exhibit! For the last two decades, Wunderkind has given High School Juniors and Seniors in the Pikes Peak region the opportunity to display their work in a professional gallery environment.
Wunderkind was originally conceived and produced by then director, Rodney Wood. Wunderkind has remained a mainstay in the MAC's gallery schedule and has provided an outlet for young artists of all media to showcase their hard work, talent, and artistic passion.
Every step of the process, from application, jurying, show opening and display is handled as any professional show would. This exposes the students to the process of how a gallery works and prepares them for other gallery shows further down the road in their career. For the past seven years, Michael Howell has been the driving force behind Wunderkind.
In 2015, Howell and Amber Wyatt won a PPAC Arts Opportunity Award for his dedication to the exhibit. Howell has expanded the reach of Wunderkind as well, making sure to extend the opportunity to show art to non-traditional and home-schooled students, students in underserved communities, and students who may not have access to formal and traditional art classes and teachers.
This ensures that any High School Junior or Senior in the area has an equal opportunity to display their work, which in turn enriches the show as a whole by expanding its diversity across socioeconomic lines. We encourage you to stop by Manitou Art Center to view this amazing exhibit!
At Avalon Valley Apartments in Colorado Springs, Colorado, we love mixing up on-site events with those happening in our greater area. Be sure to pencil this one into your busy schedule!
